DC SCORES Soccer and Writing Coach

Fall Season

During the 2011 Fall Season I worked with several other coaches to run the Soccer and Poetry programs of DC SCORES at H.D. Cooke Elementary. The season included 10 soccer games, teambuilding events, writing workshops and a poetry slam.

Service Learning Workshop with DC SCORES

Date: March 3, 2012

Event: DC SCORES Coaches Spring Kickoff Training

Coaches in Attendance: ~40

Workshop: In collaboration with the DC SCORES team, I facilitated several teambuilding activities with the DC SCORES writing coaches as well as facilitated a best practices breakout session with veteran coaches. The goal of the breakout session was effectively sharing best practices amongst the coaches and creating a more meaningful reflection process around service learning projects.

18-Minute Networking Facilitation

Date: December 9, 2011

Event: City Year Washington DC 18-Minute Networking

Length of Event: 2 hours

Description: I served as a facilitator for the mid-year 18-minute networking event for City Year AmeriCorps members. This event provided Corps Members with information and networking opportunities in their fields of interest in preparation for their graduation from City Year. I facilitated sessions on alternative teaching certification programs (specifically DC Teaching Fellows) as well as non-profit careers within and outside of City Year.

Description: I had the pleasure of training a team of Corps Members in event planning to prepare them for their year of service. The framework of the training was based on a PowerPoint presentation that I previously wrote, but the bulk of the time was spent providing examples and best practices. The last half hour was reserved for a general question and answer session.
